48 Hour Short Play Festival Located in the Little Theatre, Lower Hutt.
Nextstage Theatre Charitable Trust invites participants of all ages and physical abilities, to create a 10 minute short play based on a given subject. The teams must be comprised of no less than two and up to ten individuals nominate a team leader and be age 16 years and upwards.
The registration for the event is on-line and requires a $15 entry fee to be paid upon registration.
Teams must arrive at the Little Theatre, Lower Hutt between 6pm and 6.30pm on Friday 7th of October.
The plays content must be an M rating. No Nudity is permitted. All teams are released at 7pm for the 48 hour challenge to begin.
A first heat elimination takes place on Sunday 9th of October commencing at 7pm. This is a ticketed public performance before a panel of 3 judges. Tom Scott is patron of the event and one of the Judging panel.
Tickets are general admission at the door and cost $10. No bookings are taken.
Final: 5 teams are chosen for the Final and will work with a team of professional director, light and sound designer, dramaturg and production manager during the following week. All 5 plays are staged with lights and sound and props in the Final heat at 7pm on Saturday the 15th of October. $10 door tickets will be on sale for general admission from 6pm. A winner and 2nd and 3rd places awarded. A trophy will be given to the winner for custody for one year and prizes for both winner and runner up teams will also be given.
Tom Scott, well known cartoonist and writer, is Patron for Nextstage event ‘Playfest”, the 48 hour short play competition, staged in the Little Theatre Lower Hutt Oct 7-9 and 15th and open to anyone from 16 to 101.
Tom is joined by Adam Macauley from Radio NZ Drama, Peter Hambleton, veteran of Wellington stage(The Hobbit), and Pippa Sanderson, Hutt City Arts and Cultural Advisor.
