Ngā Atua ō Matariki at Pātaka Museum of Arts and Culture
Ngā Atua ō Matariki, opening at Pātaka Museum of Arts and Culture on June 13th, is an exhibition of photographed works inspired by Ngā Atua of the Matariki star cluster, this collection reimagines the 9 Atua through the contemporary body painting on tangata whenua.
Over five weeks, the space opens to the community to connect, create, and reflect on the rising of Matariki, a time to celebrate renewal. Experience interactive face painting workshops, activities for tamariki, and behind-the-scenes insights into the creative journey.
At the core, this project is dedicated to Pitaarangaōtemahita Rongopai, whose journey on Te-Waka-ō-Rangi will be completed among many others during the course of this exhibition.
On until July 19th, Pātaka is open 7-days a week 10am-5pm. ...Auroravision Fundraiser Screening
Join AuroraVision & friends at the Newtown Community Centre on the 19th June for an evening of nibbles, networking, and independent sci-fi cinema, featuring not one, but THREE locally made short films from Wellington creatives.
We’ll be screening: VULTURE ~ by 18th Circle PULSEWIDTH ~ by Silverwindow TEMPORAL ~ by AuroraVision
Each film offers a different vision of science fiction, from strange worlds and speculative futures to intimate human stories told through bold, imaginative local filmmaking. Funds raised from the event will go towards the next AuroraVision project: Chōra.
Chōra is an upcoming speculative short film anthology made up of several distinct stories, each set in its own unique world and each defined by unique technical and artistic challenges. By coming along, you’ll be supporting local independent cinema and helping prove that ambitious, imaginative, genre-driven filmmaking has a strong home in Wellington.
Come for the films, stay for the community, and help support the next wave of independent speculative cinema in Wellington.
