Maddie Dai started her career as an Art Director, where she won both Webby and Lovie awards with clients that included Unicef, UNHCR, Color of Change and Airbnb. In 2017 her first cartoon was published in The New Yorker, and they have since published over 70 of her cartoons. An article in Paste Magazine named Maddie as part of an exciting new wave of New Yorker cartoonists, and two of her cartoons were performed live on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

In 2020, she pivoted to screenwriting, and has worked in several television writer’s rooms, including The Power (Amazon Prime) and Our Flag Means Death (HBO). She has several original shows in development with various UK production companies, including Left Bank and DNA TV. She wrote and directed a short film, Ministry Of Jingle, which will premiere at Show Me Shorts in October 2023.

She aspires to create stories that provoke, alarm and delight, using comedy, drama and personal experience to shed light on the unique cultural moment we’re living in.
We Were Dangerous is her first feature script.
